Words Matter: An Unfinished Guide to Word Choices in the Cultural Sector

This book was published by the Wereldmuseum,Tropenmuseum, Museum Volkenkunde, and Afrika Museum as a guide and critical reflection on the language used within museums and cultural institutions. With this publication, the four museums contribute to the dialogue about the use of words in the museum world and join the social debate about the question of whether certain words are still relevant today. The publication highlights that the description of an object sometimes has just as much meaning as the object itself. This can help to better understand why a word that has no meaning for one person, is sensitive to another.
