Si Hene [founded in 2020 by Rita Mawuena Benissan] is a non-profit foundation established with the purpose of archiving and preserving the chieftaincy archives of Ghana. Si Hene means “Enstoolment” in Twi. Our foundation recognizes the importance of chieftaincy as a central pillar of
Ghanaian culture, embodying centuries-old customs, governance systems, and historical narratives. With a passionate team of archivists, artists, researchers, and cultural enthusiasts, Si hene is dedicated to documenting and safeguarding this invaluable cultural heritage.
At Si Hene, we strive to collect and digitize historical records, including royal decrees, correspondence, photographs, oral histories, and ceremonial artifacts associated with Ghana's chieftaincy traditions. Through our diligent preservation efforts, we aim to ensure the long-term survival of these fragile and often irreplaceable materials. In addition to archival preservation, Si Hene is committed to making these resources accessible to scholars, researchers, and the wider public. We provide a comprehensive research platform, where
individuals can delve into the wealth of knowledge contained within our archives. Through curated exhibitions, publications, and educational programs, Si Hene seeks to promote a deeper understanding and appreciation of Ghana's chieftaincy heritage.
Si Hene also actively engages with local communities, collaborating with traditional authorities, historians, and cultural custodians. We believe in empowering communities to actively participate in the preservation and interpretation of their own cultural heritage. By fostering dialogue,
conducting workshops, and organizing community events, Si hene strives to ensure that chieftaincy traditions remain vibrant and relevant in contemporary Ghana.
Join us in our mission to archive, preserve, and celebrate Ghana's chieftaincy archives. Together, we can honor the past, enrich the present, and inspire the future.
